Tutorial Wireless Network Card (wireless)


Many people have questions about how to configure their wireless network for better performance, but here are some tips on the wireless network card most commonly found in notebook computers today and its definitions, a manual that was found in English on the Dell website.

Enable / Disable Radio

Sometimes we need to disconnect the radio from the wireless network card so as not to interfere with the radio signal in other environments or even on other networks that use the same operating frequency, or even on an airplane where radio devices are not allowed to be kept activated.

On (default) - Keeps the wireless network card radio enabled.
Disabled - Turn the radio off even with the card active.

Afterburner

An implementation made by Broadcom on its wireless networks to achieve a higher level of data transfer between its own cards. By default, the feature is disabled.

Disabled (default) - Disables the Afterburner feature.
On - Enables the Afterburner feature.

SSID Self Promotion

It allows the current definition of the network where it is configured to be sent through the wireless network card. In the case of an Ad hoc (point-to-point) network, it is necessary to enable so that other computers can view your configured network on your computer, and connect to it.

Disabled (default) - Disables sending network identification.
On - Sends the signal from the network definition to any wireless network device.

Block wireless network settings

New settings made on the wireless network will be discarded, and the wireless network card will retain previously saved settings for connecting to the networks.

Disabled (default) - Everything done will have an effect on the wireless network.
Enabled - New changes will be discarded.

PLCP header


The PLCP Header is used during transmission between speeds of 5 to 11 Mbps in the 802.11b topology, sending an additional header in each packet for testing purposes, avoiding interference and ambient noise. This type can be Long or Automatic (short / long).

Bluetooth collaboration

Bluetooth collaboration enables the input / output of compressed transmission over the IEEE 802.11 protocol and the Bluetooth chip does its best to minimize interference between the wi-fi network during data transmission. Bluetooth collaboration is enabled by default.

Minimum Energy Consumption

When enabled, this property enables the wireless client to turn off the radio and not perform searches when the client's network is disconnected or when the computer is in standby.

Roaming Decision

The signal strength value that determines when the wireless network adapter starts to search for other access points.
The signal strength value that determines when the Dell Wireless WLAN Card starts scanning for other APs.

Antenna Diversity

The Antenna Diversity function included in most wireless equipment that uses two antennas, Main and Aux. When set to "Automatic", Antenna Diversity monitors the signal for each antenna and automatically selects the one with the best signal.

Local Managed MAC Address

The local administration of the MAC address is for the user to define a MAC address to be used instead of an address assigned to the factory wireless network adapter, making it possible to use a specific one. Each adapter has a unique MAC address, but it may happen that two adapters (very rarely) have the same address. This local address administration consists of a 12-digit hexadecimal number.

Value. Determine the 12-digit value for the wireless adapter's MAC address.
Not present (Default). Uses the factory-determined address for the wireless network adapter.

The appropriate address and exceptions for local address administration include the following parameters:
Between 00: 00: 00: 00: 00: 01 for FF: FF: FF: FF: FF: FD.
Do not use multicast addresses (it means the minimum bit of the byte = 1).
Don't just use all 0 or all F.

Ethernet Managed by WZC

If WZC Managed Ethernet is enabled, Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) is enabled to manage connections for 802.1x Ethernet devices on your computer. This setting applies only to the application that manages the wireless network adapter.

Manage Wireless Network Settings

When "Manage Wireless Network Settings" is enabled, you can configure and manage your wireless network settings using any wireless network utility.

IBSS Allowed

This property configures the ability for you to use programs such as the "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility", wireless connection wizard to create or connect to a point-to-point (ad hoc) network. The network administrator may ask you to disable this feature for security purposes.

IBSS Connection Indication

Fragmentation Threshold
The maximum size in bytes that each packet being fragmented and transmitted in several parts than one part at a time. Available in values ​​from 256 to 2346.

The default value is 2346.

RTS threshold

If the number of frames in the packet data is a value up to the "RTS threshold", a request to send / delete to send is sent before continuing to send the packet with the data. The default value is 2347. The value ranges from 0 to 2347.

AP Compatibility Mode

Some Access Points may have improper implementations of the IEEE 802.11 standards. By configuring this property, you enable your "Dell Wireless WLAN Card" for better communication with each Access Point, but it can demand a decrease in performance. The default setting disables the compatibility feature, making performance based.

Energy Saver Mode

The "Energy Saver Mode" property is used to place the wireless client within the IEEE 802.11 energy saving standard. When this property is enabled, the radio is periodically turned off to conserve energy. When the radio is off, packets are stored at the nearest Access Point for when the radio is switched back on. The quick setup allows total speed with energy savings.

Protection Mode IBSS 54g (tm)

A pre-set mechanism in each frame with a send / delete to send request (RTS / CTS) complementing the frame sequence CCK code. The duration of each RTS and CTS should allow the IEEE 802.11b node to correctly configure the network area (NAV) and prevent collisions with subsequent frames. Required by Wi-Fi®, protection mechanisms are automatically enabled when an IEEE 802.11b starts a BSS network. If there is no IEEE 802.11b "STA joins", then there is no protection mechanism and the IEEE 802.11g standard is used for the best performance.

IBSS 54g (tm) mode

IBSS 54g (tm) Mode is used to configure an ad hoc (point-to-point) connection. The following options are available:


802.11b mode (default). Connections to IEEE 802.11b networks only. IEEE 802.11g networks will be excluded.
802.11g mode. Only connections to IEEE 802.11g networks for very high speeds.

Wake-Up Mode

Allows you to wake the computer using special packages via the wireless network adapter.

Channel Number WZC IBSS

The WZC IBSS channel number is a property to select in a basic way and does not depend on the service of the channel number for which the WZC will operate and configure its wireless network connection.

The default is channel 11.

Output power

Sets the amount of power to be used by the wireless network adapter. Usually, in percentage.

Mixed Cell Support

An implementation to support sending multiple packages at the same time. Available for Broadcom adapters only. By default, this option is disabled.

VLAN Priority Support

If mixed cell support is enabled, it will be analyzed which packet that has just arrived has higher priority in data traffic.

XPress (TM) technology

Xpress ™ technology is a frame technology that improves the maximum transfer of repackaged packages so that more data can be sent per frame. Xpress ™ technology is disabled by default.

Disabled (default). Disables Xpress ™ technology.
Activated. Activates Xpress ™ technology.

Roaming Trend

This property adjusts the roaming threshold for the wireless network adapter.

Moderate (default). Switch Access Point having a signal strength of at least 20 dB better than the current access point.
Aggressive. Change Access Point having a signal strength of at least 10 dB better than the current Access point.
Conservative. Switch Access Point having a signal strength of at least 30 dB better than the current Access Point.

velocity

This property allows you to specify the speed (in Mbit / s) at which data is transferred. The possibilities are several such as: 1, 2, 5.5, 6, 9, 11, 18, 24, 36, 48 and 54. The pattern is configured to use the best speed. This is automatically configured by the transmission settings for optimal rate based on the capabilities of customers and access points.


Note: By default, the value of this property is configured for maximum performance. In any case, it is not recommended for home users to change this value. This should be dealt with by the network administrator. In some cases, the client takes time to find the best speed, so the administrator finds it, fixes this speed so that the client does not take too long at the best speed.

WMM

Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM ™). The WMM property enables quality of service for audio, video and wireless conferencing applications by prioritizing stream content and optimizing the way the network allocates speed across application competition.

Automatic (default). Enabled only if the Access Point has associated services for energy saving, and with the capacity to store packages.
Enabled. Whenever the client enters the standby state, the WMM service will remain active, even if the access point does not support this feature.
Disabled. The wireless client does not support WMM.

    Obrigado pelo tutorial respondeu algumas duvidas minhas. Gostaria de saber o que devo fazer para a minha placa reconhecer dispositivos bluetooth. já ativei a colaboração bluetooth dela mas o windows ainda não reconhece nenhum dispositivo bluetooth. também já atualizei o driver da placa de rede broadcom 802.11g modelo BCM4315 mas não adiantou. poderia me ajudar? Placa de rede sem fio da topologia 802.11 não possui bluetooth integrado (exceto alguns de notebooks) mas a colaboração bluetooth significa apenas que a rede sem fio deixa de funcionar enquanto o bluetooth está funcionando, para não interferir no sinal, mas isto é só para adaptadores bluetooth compatíveis. Praticamente não há parada, há intervalos onde um trabalha, e o outro trabalha, não interferindo na frequência de um e de outro (já que ambos trabalham em frequências indênticas).
